Partnering with American Indians and Alaska Natives in Suicide Prevention
Connect Suicide Prevention/Intervention Training is a unique community-based model that helps people learn to recognize warning signs early and improve their skills in responding to suicide attempts, thoughts and threats .
Participants also learn how to connect with each other and work across systems to address community risk and protective factors, coordinate services, and improve access to care to prevent suicide. Cross training ensures that participants understand the role and responsibilities of different service providers.
Connect training emphasizes a collaborative approach and includes best practice protocols (guidelines) for each service area listed below.
Master trainer/clinicians conduct the six-hour training that includes activities, interactive case scenarios, facilitated discussion, PowerPoint presentation, and written materials.
Connect staff will consult with the sponsoring entity to customize the training to make it culturally effective and relevant. Read more.
Prevention/intervention training is offered to the following audiences:
Individuals who have had a loss from suicide, particularly a recent loss (such as within the past year), may find that a suicide prevention training evokes discomfort and/or feelings of regret. It is recommended that anyone who is impacted by a loss to suicide contact the instructor before attending the training to determine their readiness for prevention training and to discuss any alternative programs which may be more appropriate. Survivors are encouraged to contact Connect staff in advance to discuss their readiness for participation.
