Training for Domestic Violence Agencies in Suicide Prevention
Individuals and organizations that support victims of domestic violence and sexual assault are constantly dealing with people at high risk for suicide. Due to the intense personal nature of their abuse/assault, many victims contemplate suicide. Perpetrators are also at high risk for suicide and often use the threat of suicide to control their victims. Suicidal perpetrators are also at high risk for homicide/suicide.
A unique community-based model, Connect which increases the competence and confidence of individuals working with victims/perpetrators of domestic violence to recognize and respond to individuals who are thinking about or who have attempted suicide. Included is a review of National Best Practice suicide prevention/intervention protocols specific to domestic violence, interactive case scenarios, and discussion on how to integrate with other key service providers in the community for an effective and comprehensive response.
